Family, friends and good times have always been at the heart of Backpaddock Lakes.
What began as an idea to dig a lake in the back paddock of our family farm soon became a place where people could spend long summer days together — swimming, wakeboarding, sharing food and relaxing by the water.
Thankfully, the water came. Since then, one paddock and a digger have grown into a lakeside destination for weddings, events, accommodation and days on the water, while still holding onto the relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere it all began with.
Backpaddock Lakes is still very much a family affair, with everyone pitching in behind the scenes. We’ve created a relaxed, welcoming place for people to gather, celebrate and enjoy time together by the lake.
A back paddock, a digger and a bit of luck — that’s how it all began.
The majestic and forever-changing Ruahine Range is the perfect backdrop for our lovely lakes. The native wetlands shift through the seasons, offering a peaceful retreat from the busy activity on our two watersports lakes.
Our dedicated wetland area covers roughly two hectares — seven islands of channels and open water, separated by native plantings and local wildlife. Unperturbed by the lake, the area is often visited by the Kōtuku (White Heron).
Whether you’re booking accommodation, a session on the water, a wedding or an event, everything starts with choosing the right option for you!
